Dunlop Kirk

Extension to existing church building to create multi-use space

The single storey extension to the historic B-listed Dunlop Kirk is intended to relate comfortably within the same scale and character as an original single storey vestry alongside. Its design reflects the traditional building forms and materials of the church and nearby village housing and although directly linked to the existing building it is intended to be read as a discrete element that is detached from the historic structures.

The addition of a separate multi-purpose space adjoining the church sanctuary will improve the flexibility of the facilities and increase the scope for further utilisation out with normal worship use. The extension provides much-needed changing room for musicians, entertainers and speakers when concerts and other events are held in the church.
